Children in Poverty

 

Jennifer is troubled by statistics from the Save the Children website, especially as they back up her deep and long-held views that not nearly enough is being done for many children in our society.

 

"   England is one of the world’s premiere financial centres.   In 2010, its most expensive apartment sold for £134.5 million.  

Yet nearly one in three of England’s children live in poverty.

One in five children in Scotland live in poverty.

We see flats without cookers, and parents who go without themselves so that their children have enough to eat.

 Children living in severe poverty simply don’t have enough money to pay for essential items.

This can mean having to choose between a hot meal and a warm home, or between a winter coat and a decent pair of shoes.  " 

Jennifer says, That's unacceptable."   What do you think/feel ?  Do you care ?
