Examination Board figures have shown that the take-up of French and German is in free-fall.
Over the past five years, there has been a decline of over 20%, and even in the last year these two subjects have fallen by over 10%.
Significantly more pupils are studying PE than German.
There has however been a huge surge of interest in the science subjects in the past five years - physics, chemistry and biology all showing a very healthy rise.
History and geography were down, but religious education was up.
Concern is being expressed about the long-term decline of modern languages, especially as languages are important in a global economy.

it is Joseph Bery
Peter is doing well at his new school and has loads of homework to comlete.He has lots of new friends and is enjoying it very much.He has taken a little bit interest in rugby snd coping well with falkirk.He played Hearts a couple of weeks a go and won one 2-1 match and lost the other 2-1 with hearts goals that were clearly offside.He as been playing well recently and has said it has been one of the best experiences he has ever had at Dollar Academy.He says good luck in coming years of yor tutoring and also says enjoy having Joe.
